The Austrian Black and Tan Hound is a medium-sized dog breed that grows between 40 and 50 cm tall and weighs about 20 to 25 kg. Their coat is short and dense and can come in a variety of colors – but most often they are black with tan markings. As mentioned earlier, the Austrian Black and Tan Hound have a strongly developed hunting instinct. They are very independent and can sometimes be stubborn. Consistent education and plenty of activity are therefore absolutely necessary.
Because of the strong hunting instinct, it is important that Brandlbracken are always kept on a leash or allowed to run free in a fenced area. When they spot game, it can be difficult to get their attention back to the owner.
The Austrian Black and Tan Hound has a muscular build and a slender figure. It is a medium-sized dog breed with a shoulder height of about 45-55 cm and a weight of 15-25 kg. Their coat is short, dense and mostly black with tan markings on the eyebrows, cheeks, legs and underside of the tail. The long ears are typical for this breed and can reach the nose.
The Austrian Black and Tan Hound are very temperamental dogs that need a lot of exercise. They have a strong hunting instinct and are very independent – this can make them difficult to train or keep their attention. They are affectionate and loyal with their family, but rather reserved with strangers.
The Austrian Black and Tan Hound should be kept in a house or apartment with a garden – living in the city is only conditionally recommended. Because of their hunting instinct, the Austrian Black and Tan Hound should always be walked on a leash or allowed to run free in a fenced area. They need a lot of exercise and activity – preferably several hours a day.
For a balanced diet, you should make sure that the food meets the needs of the dog – for example, is tailored to the age or special needs such as allergies. A mixture of dry and wet food and fresh water should always be available. The short coat of the Austrian Black and Tan Hound does not require extensive grooming – regular brushing is sufficient.
The Austrian Black and Tan Hound is believed to be descended from the Celts and was used mainly for hunting game in the past – it was especially popular for hunting hares. Today it is also kept as a companion dog.
In summary, the Austrian Black and Tan Hound is a lively dog with a lot of hunting instinct. Whoever offers her enough exercise and occupation will get a loyal companion for many years. However, you should be aware that this breed is not necessarily suitable for beginners – due to the strong hunting instinct, it can be difficult to train them.
